Artificial intelligence technology, which has a history spanning more than half a century, has undergone rapid development since the 21st century and is having a major impact on our lives. From a legal perspective, this impact is emerging above all in the form of changes in legal services, legal systems, and policies.

To respond to this, it is essential for experts from various fields to come together and approach issues from an interdisciplinary perspective. In advanced countries, venues where experts from each field can exchange ideas to study the interaction between artificial intelligence and the law have long been established. More recently, such opportunities have also been created sporadically in Korea. Unfortunately, however, these opportunities have not yet been smoothly connected with one another and have not maintained continuity.

Analysis and discussion of legal systems related to artificial intelligence go beyond the field of law and are also important for collectively seeking the direction our society should take in the future, while also providing significant implications for what policies the nation should establish and pursue. Accordingly, in order to establish a sustained interdisciplinary academic forum where researchers and practitioners in related fields can address issues concerning the interaction among artificial intelligence technology, legal systems, and policy from a comprehensive perspective, we founded the Korean Association for Artificial Intelligence and Law and began our activities.

We hope that many people who share our vision will join us.
